Omnivore Ethics

A Forum & Community Conversation

Tuesday, May 12th, 6:30pm

Both in person and online via Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83493268395?pwd=9wSvM1UEpst96ZouPKkIJaqLRFnlNc.1

Three organizations, the Putney Public Library, In Situ Polyculture Commons & Marble House Project, are thrilled to invite the public to a very omnivorous forum including guest speakers with decades of experience in outdoor education, hunting, environmental art, foraging and ancestral skills. Through this conversation, the organizers invite the public to contribute to a discussion that will touch on numerous aspects of omnivorous life in the anthropocene, including; understanding pre-modern human diets, ethics of foraging & hunting (why kill an animal?), effects of industrial agriculture & meat consumption globally, importance of local foodsheds, concerns of animal welfare, environmental effects of deer overpopulation, and (perhaps) even more!

Bring your passion, bring your questions, and bring your curiosity as we all seek to gain depth and knowledge about the many considerations one takes, knowingly or not, as an omnivore.

Featuring contributions and moderation by:

Dr. Theresa Emmerich Kamper, visiting educator & ancestral skills expert

Bob Etzweiler, Hunter Education Instructor for Vermont and Director of the Hunter’s

Heart Hunting Apprenticeship, the Vermont Wilderness School Wildlife Tracking Apprenticeship

Ed Morris, environmental artist, Co-founder of Tool Shed & Interim Executive Director of Marble House Project (Dorset, VT)

Brian Cheverie, Putney-area resident, community-member and hunter

Candace Jensen, Creative Director and Co-founder of In Situ Polyculture Commons, frequent forager & locavore in SE Vermont
