What is Somatic Experiencing (SE)?
Wednesday, June 12th at 6:30PM
Join Daniel Lang at Putney Public Library on Wednesday, June 12th at 6:30PM to learn more about Somatic Experiencing. SE is a gentle, intuitive, body-based approach developed by Peter Levine, PhD, used to resolve trauma and reactivate our birthright of vitality. It works from the ground up, from sensation and awareness rather than from the top down, from cognition and ego. By increasing contact with our felt sense—what we are physically feeling in the here and now– we open an entry point to discovery and resolution in a way that can be truly transformative.
Daniel will discuss the origins of SE and what first attracted him to it. He will make connections between polyvagal theory, animal/human instincts, and how these relate to feelings of calmness, aggression, and discomfort. While not offering SE as a panacea or cure-all, Daniel will illustrate how this approach can be an effective tool for realigning our nervous system (and therefore ourselves) when it has been deeply impacted by trauma or chronic stress. Daniel will share how this work has positively affected him, and the kind of results he has seen. An exercise will be included to give attendees first-hand experience with this approach.
Daniel Lang, Occupational Therapist, recently opened The Body Knows The Way in Putney, VT. He combines extensive mental health experience across the lifespan with Somatic Experiencing (SE), an integrative and intuitive body-based approach rooted in polyvagal theory and physiology. A lifelong creative, he is passionate about education and empowerment, and enjoys sharing this powerful work with others.
