Putney Public Library Joins Catamount Library Network!

Starting on Monday, December 10th, Putney Public Library is joining the Catamount Library Network, a group of 18 public libraries in Vermont who are banding together to share an online catalog and our collections.

For Putney Library patrons, this will mean you will be able to log on to the new catalog from home computer or other device and see items in all 18 libraries, including larger libraries such as Brooks Memorial Library in Brattleboro and Rutland Free Library, and place holds on any items in the system. The items will then arrive at the Putney Public Library via our interlibrary courier service. This means a much larger pool of books, movies, audiobooks and children’s items for you to easily select from!

What changes will we see right away?

The online catalog will look different, though the basic functions of searching will be similar.  The catalog can still be accessed by going to putneylibrary.org

If you already use account features, such as placing holds and renewing materials online, you will need to reset your bookmarks to the new catalog address  and use a new login, which will consist of your library card number and the last 4 digits of your phone number as your password. Anyone who has a library card will be able to log in with that combination of information. If you don’t know your library card information or suspect we have an old phone number for you, please call the library at 387-4407 or email Emily@putneylibrary.org .

The standard loan period is also changing from four weeks to three weeks. All participating libraries have  to compromise to agree on policies that are consistent.  Putney Library will continue to be a fine free library.

A great feature of the new software is the easy ability to notify patrons of holds and overdues using email. Please give us your email address when you are next in so we can keep in touch about your incoming items.
