SUMMARY:Read To A Dog
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to welcome therapy dog\, Keeper and his owner Abigail to the Library on Wednesdays from October 20th – November 17th\, 3:30 – 4:30.  Sign up for 15 minute slots by emailing julia@putneylibrary.org or drop in when space is available. \nTherapy dogs can help emerging and struggling readers by lending a nonjudgmental ear to listen. They can also help in lowering heart rates and stress hormones while stimulating parts of the brain that encourage social-emotional learning. \nKeeper is a two-year-old Labrador Retriever who is a certified therapy dog (with the Alliance of Therapy Dogs). To become certified\, he had to pass an initial obedience test as well as complete three supervised visits at several facilities.  Besides listening to stories read out loud his favorite activities are swimming\, rolling in mud puddles\, chasing squirrels and wrestling with his sister. \nAbigail Littlefield is Keeper’s owner/chauffeur\, who will always be found at the other end of his leash.  Keeper is her forth certified therapy dog; some of the places she has visited with past dogs are elementary schools\, hospitals\, nursing homes and colleges.  She is a retired college professor who lives in Westminster West where\, in addition to Keeper\, she has two more dogs\, a cat\, chickens and bees!

SUMMARY:THE GRAND RE-OPENING creativity workshop with Michelle Blake
DESCRIPTION:**registration required**\nSaturday\, November 6\, 11 AM to 1 PM\nTent Behind Putney Public Library (unless it’s dismal weather; in which case we meet on ZOOM)\n\nEarly in the pandemic\, one of my meditation teachers used the term “aversive filter” to describe the lens through which we had come to view the world around us–a world filled with virus germs covered in deadly spikes. I also began to notice that many of my friends had stopped making things–books\, paintings\, songs. How do we remove that aversive filter and re-open to the world\, our source of meaning and inspiration? \nJoin us for a workshop–outside\, we hope\, on receptivity\, creativity and ways to access the mystery. Please bring your masks\, hats and scarves and what you need to stay warm\, including thermoses of cider. We will experiment with meditation\, free-writing\, reading out loud and exploring how other artists and writers become receptive. \nIf you have ANY interest in joining us\, please let me know. If the weather is bad\, we will have to move to ZOOM\, and I want to be able to notify folks as soon as we make that decision. Please send an email with subject line INTERESTED IN LIBRARY CLASS\, to michelleblake09@gmail.com. This is in no way a commitment to attend.
