SUMMARY:Toni Ortner and Carolyn North to Read at Putney Library
DESCRIPTION:Toni Ortner and Carolyn North to Read at Putney Library \nJoin us at the Putney Public Library on Thursday\, January 11th at 6:30pm to hear the voices of two Putney writers. \nCarolyn North had been living in Berkeley\, California until a year and a half ago when she returned to Putney\, the place she loves the best in the world. She is the author of 18 published books\, and has taught improvisational dance as a healing modality in Berkeley for 4 decades. Her focus now is preparing and reassuring people\, through her writing\, to manage big societal shifts by working together.\n She has 3 grown children and 4 grown grandchildren and lives on Old Depot Road in the old Priory. \nCarolyn will read from her book titled Freeflow Stories. \nToni Ortner who lives in Putney has had 31 books published by small presses. The most recent is Focused Light from a Distant Star by Kelsay Books. The book honors women’s art of the last few centuries. Her website\, toniortner.com\, shows a full bibliography of her published books with reviews and directions on where to purchase them. Toni was Vice President of Write Action for 14 years and hosted the Write Action Radio Show where she interviewed writers and they read their work. She hosted the Putney Writers Salon through the Putney Library on Zoom during Covid. \nToni will read from Focused Light from a Distant Star accompanied by a slideshow of art by the women artists who inspired this writing. \nPutney Public Library is located at 55 Main St in Putney\, VT. SUMMARY:Dungeons and Dragons--Registration required
DESCRIPTION:We’re assembling a group for an 8-week campaign\, Fridays January 19th to March 8th at 6:30pm at Putney Public Library. \nThis is an 18 and up game and we are looking for folks who can join for all sessions. Space is limited and registration is required! \nBen has lived in Putney for 12 years. He works as a therapist\, and enjoys gardening and making art of all kinds. \nDungeon Manager\, Ben Boyarko\, says: \n“In this game we’ll start with a session zero to create characters and the world setting together. Rather than playing a previously published adventure\, we’ll collaboratively create a brand new campaign. If you have no experience with D&D\, that’s fine. And if you have some official content that you’re interested in incorporating into the game\, that will work too!” \nPlease register: https://forms.gle/iweGJSBZzP1pWbrm6

SUMMARY:Cultivating Community Book Group with Trish Roberts --discusses We Should Get Together
DESCRIPTION:Cultivating Community Book Group with Trish Roberts at Putney Public Library\nLet’s get together to talk about how to build stronger connections in our lives and cultivate a deeper sense of belonging in our community.\nEach month we will read a book\, published within the last three years\, that offers inspiring\, actionable advice on how to grow a more connected world. We’ll gather once a month to discuss the various tips\, strategies and activities offered in each book and brainstorm ways to put these ideas into practice in our lives. Our first meeting\, on Wednesday\, January 24 from 6:30-8 PM at Putney Library\, we’ll discuss the book We Should Get Together by Kat Vellos. Putney Library cardholders can pick up a copy at the library.\nAccording to the publisher\, We Should Get Together is\, “the handbook for anyone who’s ready for better friendships\, now. Millions of adults struggle with an uncomfortable and persistent ache: platonic longing\, which is the unfulfilled wish for authentic\, resilient\, close friendships. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Making and maintaining friendships during adulthood can be hard—or\, with a bit of intention and creativity\, joyful. Combining expert research and personal stories pulled from conversations with hundreds of adults\, We Should Get Together is the modern handbook for making and maintaining stronger friendships.”\nFacilitator Trish has lived in the Putney area for 7 years and has a background in education with experience teaching French and English literature at the high school level and directing theater programs and performances for youth of all ages. She recently founded Wildbrook Forest Theater\, a nature-based theater project in Westminster\, and currently runs the Main Street Arts After-School drama program. She is a library board member with a passion for wild places\, live music\, storytelling and community.
