SUMMARY:Library Birthday Party!
DESCRIPTION:Putney Public Library Celebrates 20th Birthday \nOn Sunday\, February 2nd from 1:00pm-4:00pm\, the Putney Public Library will kick off a year of activities and programming to celebrate the 20th birthday of the library’s beautiful building and honor two decades of community engagement in this space. Appropriately\, the year will open with a birthday party- complete with cake and balloons. And if one cake isn’t enough\, the library is also hosting a cake contest where patrons can vote for their favorite design. Interested bakers can obtain more information at putneylibrary.org/cake .\nOn this festive day\, the children’s area will host storytelling\, face painting from 1:30pm-3:30pm\, and a birthday-related art project; weather permitting there will be outdoor activities\, a warming fire\, and hot cider.\nPatrons can also contribute to a library time capsule or give the library a birthday present by purchasing from a list of specially selected adult and children’s books. Each gift book will feature a celebratory book plate with the donor and honoree’s names. Book-gifts will be available to browse and purchase beginning January 27th.\nThe Putney Public Library building at 55 Main St. is actually the sixth site of a library in Putney. During the month of February\, a display will trace the history of the former sites that stretch back to 1793 and feature photos from the planning and construction of the current building. First envisioned and championed by local resident\, David Rothschild\, the current library was built with the donations of the community\, and designed and constructed by local architects and builders. Everyone is invited to join in the festivities to celebrate this special library and the vision and community support that made it a reality.\nPutney Public Library is located at 55 Main Street in Putney\, VT. This program is free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Putney Palette Workshop--require registration
DESCRIPTION:Imagine a watercolor kit in which all the colors came from the plants\, rocks and clay that surround us. Join us at Putney Library where we’ll use simple methods and everyday equipment to make watercolor paints from a variety of urban\, rural and repurposed materials from our locale to make a completely idiosyncratic hyper-local paint set reflecting the history\, people\, land and ecology of our area. This workshop will produce watercolor kits that will be available for checkout at the library. \nThis workshop is co-presented with In Situ Polyculture. \nAges 12 and up welcome—register by email to request@putneylibrary.org or by calling 802-387-4407.
