SUMMARY:What is Somatic Experiencing (SE)? with Daniel Lang
DESCRIPTION:What is Somatic Experiencing (SE)? \nWednesday\, June 12th at 6:30PM \nJoin Daniel Lang at Putney Public Library on Wednesday\, June 12th at 6:30PM to learn more about Somatic Experiencing. SE is a gentle\, intuitive\, body-based approach developed by Peter Levine\, PhD\, used to resolve trauma and reactivate our birthright of vitality. It works from the ground up\, from sensation and awareness rather than from the top down\, from cognition and ego. By increasing contact with our felt sense—what we are physically feeling in the here and now– we open an entry point to discovery and resolution in a way that can be truly transformative. \nDaniel will discuss the origins of SE and what first attracted him to it. He will make connections between polyvagal theory\, animal/human instincts\, and how these relate to feelings of calmness\, aggression\, and discomfort. While not offering SE as a panacea or cure-all\, Daniel will illustrate how this approach can be an effective tool for realigning our nervous system (and therefore ourselves) when it has been deeply impacted by trauma or chronic stress. Daniel will share how this work has positively affected him\, and the kind of results he has seen. An exercise will be included to give attendees first-hand experience with this approach. \nDaniel Lang\, Occupational Therapist\, recently opened The Body Knows The Way in Putney\, VT. He combines extensive mental health experience across the lifespan with Somatic Experiencing (SE)\, an integrative and intuitive body-based approach rooted in polyvagal theory and physiology. A lifelong creative\, he is passionate about education and empowerment\, and enjoys sharing this powerful work with others.

DESCRIPTION:Poetry Chapbook Release Readings \nSaturdays at 1pm\, June 15th and July 13th \nIn 2019\, Putney Public Library began to assemble a chapbook of poetry by writers with creative ties to Vermont. While the project was unexpectedly delayed by Covid\, the chapbook is now complete and ready to be released into the world! The book\, appropriately titled Time Capsule\, was hand bound in community workshops with marbled endpapers and a beautiful letterpress cover. \nThe contributing poets are Emma Paris\, Michelle Blake\, Dede Cummings\, Candace Jensen\, Ben Pease\, Bianca Stone (Current Vermont Poet Laureate)\, Chard deNiord (Past Vermont Poet Laureate)\, Em Peake\, Nancy Storrow\, Rita Banerjee\, Robin Myers\, Kate Gleason\, Amanda Galvan Huynh\, Claire Gieringer\, Mary Ruefle (Past Vermont Poet Laureate)\, Didi Jackson\, Major Jackson\, and Megan Buchanan. \nJoin us for two readings this summer where you can hear some of the contributing poets read past and new work and purchase a chapbook of your own. Readings will be Saturday\, June 15th at 1pm and Saturday\, July 13th at 1pm at Putney Public Library. Chapbooks will be sold as a fundraiser for the Putney Public Library at $50 each\, payable by cash or check. Chapbooks will also be offered to each library in Windham County for their circulating collections and a digital file of the book will be available to view or download at the Putney Public Library website.

Then we will continue to write for another half an hour followed by forming small groups again. Finally the groups will come together to reassess how it all is going.\nThere will be a maximum of 12 people of all writers so you must register using this form: https://forms.gle/yqe1iuUFJrVRPWzFA\nLynn Levine and Cheryl Wilfong will lead the group.\nLynn is a forester and naturalist and has written 6 books with nature in mind. She finds writing an exercise that allows her mind to wander and be creative. More information about her can be found at Heartwoodpress.com .\nCheryl Wilfong is the author of The Meditative Gardener: Cultivating Mindfulness of Body\, Feelings\, and Mind (www.meditativegardener.com)\, winner of seven book awards.
