Botanical Eco-Photography Processes: Artist Talk with Visiting Artist Rachel Guardiola

Rachel Guardiola is an interdisciplinary artist, naturalist, and educator who is a July 2026 artist in residence at In Situ Polyculture Commons (ISPC) in Westminster. She will give an artist talk about her work that merges camera-less photography with ethical foraging and sustainable plant-based gardening practices. Come learn how to make your own photo garden!

Rachel Guardiola is an interdisciplinary artist, naturalist, and educator with a studio practice that explores the human relationship to wilderness through lens-based technology. She has received the Hamiltonian Artist Fellowship, Smithsonian Digital Archives Fellowship, and Studio Vortex Travel Grant. Guardiola has exhibited with the Wassaic Project, List í Ljósi, The Sustainable Darkroom, Ortega y Gasset Projects, National Aquarium, Rhizome DC, Analog Cookbook, The Halide Project, Vermont Center of Photography, Center for the Holographic Arts, Light City Baltimore, School 33 Art Center, Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington (MoCA), Washington Project for the Arts, and Dakar Biennale de l’Art Contemporain amongst others. She has been an artist in residence at MASS MoCA, A.I.R. Gallery, Arctic Circle Art and Science Expedition, HEIMA, Vermont Studio Center, and Atelier de Visu. Guardiola received an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. She served as an Environmental Education Extension Agent for the U.S. Peace Corps in Senegal West Africa and has lived and worked internationally. Guardiola is currently Visiting Assistant Professor of Fine Art Photography at Rochester Institute of Technology.
